This summer, we at Freedom Solar are excited to highlight our customers who are championing alternative energy in their communities. Their inspiring stories underscore the positive impact of solar power!
Acts of Gratitude
One of the most rewarding aspects of our job is receiving heartfelt feedback from satisfied customers who share our values. Pastor Stan and Mary Mills exemplified this by expressing their appreciation in a special way.
When they visited our office to finalize their solar project payment, they presented us with a two-page letter thanking everyone involved in the installation by name. To top it off, they brought an Easter cake to share with our team!
Spending that afternoon together was a highlight of our year, and their gratitude moved us to tears. This may be the most genuine thank-you we’ve ever received, but honestly, we feel grateful to have such amazing customers.
A Glimpse Into the Future of Resilient Homes
Fifth-generation Texan and geologist Darrell Brownlow built his dream home using sustainable construction methods on his family’s ranch. Solar energy plays a key role in his innovative “treehouse,” which also features xeriscaping and a geothermal heating and cooling system that utilizes the depths of the Carrizo Aquifer, located 130 feet below his home.
Check out the installation of his third-phase solar expansion from last fall and learn more about his unique residence here.
As concerns about grid instability grow, more individuals are choosing to go solar and enhance their energy security with backup batteries. Watch a video featuring a recent Tesla Powerwall installation at the certified Passive House of architect Trey Farmer. The Powerwall complements his solar panels and other energy-efficient features to ensure his family remains powered, regardless of grid outages or weather challenges. Committed to Quality and Overcoming Challenges
We take pride in our craftsmanship and are willing to tackle challenging projects that others may shy away from. Last year, we completed our most challenging project to date in Northwest Austin. This involved installing a fully offset solar array, backup batteries for critical loads, EV charging capabilities, and an electrical service upgrade—all while preserving the existing property and landscaping.
Through difficult conditions, including digging a 200-foot trench during the February 2021 winter freeze, passing 10 inspections across three permits on the first try, and rerouting electrical, gas, and telecom services, we successfully “future-proofed” the home according to the homeowner’s vision!
After finishing this ambitious project, we created a coffee table book highlighting the hard work and dedication our Freedom Solar team put into it. Read more about it here!
Supporting Our Customers and the Outdoors
Part of our commitment to our customers is supporting the causes they care about, including one of our favorites: the great outdoors!
Customer Steve H. recently invited us to participate in a fundraising event, where we shared information about solar energy and raised funds for the San Gabriel Fly Fishers, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching fly fishing through conservation, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.
This tournament benefited various groups, including disabled veterans, cancer survivors, children in foster care, and environmental conservation efforts. Learn more about these initiatives!
Celebrating Willie Nelson and Earth Day
Thanks to all of you, we celebrated Willie Nelson’s birthday alongside Earth Day in April, engaging hundreds of people through our referral program to promote solar energy! As a revered Austin icon and climate change advocate, we appreciate your support in spreading the word about solar.
We welcomed over 450 individuals who submitted their first referrals to our program, and we were especially impressed by the six participants who referred more than ten people! Your contributions are making a significant impact.
Teamwork makes the dream work!
Through this campaign, we cultivated a shared message that solar energy is part of our future, encouraging homeowners to take advantage of its long-term savings and positive environmental effects.
