Freedom Solar Power proudly announces that its client, Group 1 Automotive—a Fortune 300 automotive retailer—has successfully installed approximately 10,000 solar panels across multiple dealerships in the U.S.
Group 1 Automotive is dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of its operations at both corporate and dealership levels. Central to this initiative is the adoption of solar energy throughout the Group 1 portfolio. This transition not only meets the energy requirements of its dealerships but also achieves substantial cost savings and promotes a more sustainable operational footprint.
“We are honored to collaborate with Group 1, a leading global publicly traded automotive retailer, to implement their innovative solar program,” said Kyle Frazier, Head of Commercial Sales at Freedom Solar Power. “For many years, we have supported automotive dealerships across the country in becoming more energy-efficient and cost-effective. This partnership with Group 1 will significantly enhance the impact of our efforts.”
Group 1 plans to complete solar installations at a total of 25 locations by the end of 2024. To date, the more than 10,000 solar panels installed at select Group 1 stores have generated over 7.3 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy.
“Group 1 continually strives to enhance our business operations while pursuing our long-term sustainability goals,” remarked Gregg Wintner, Vice President of Procurement & Facility Services at Group 1. “Freedom Solar Power has played a crucial role in advancing our solar initiatives. Together, we are fulfilling our commitment to expand renewable energy solutions across our portfolio.”
Ryan Ferrero, National Automotive Manager for Freedom Solar, added, “The shift toward solar energy is gaining momentum within the automotive industry. Many dealerships have ample rooftop space suitable for solar arrays that can significantly offset their energy costs. As more auto dealers explore solar options, they recognize its potential as an effective environmental, social, and business strategy that benefits all parties involved.”
According to the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), energy expenses rank as the third-highest operational cost for dealerships due to their extended hours and the energy demands of showrooms and lots. To address these high energy costs and ensure a reliable electricity supply, many dealerships are turning to solar power. Embracing solar energy also reflects a dealership’s commitment to environmental sustainability, which resonates with an increasingly eco-conscious consumer base.
